Scout Motors Inc. has launched its new era of rugged vehicles with the reveal of the Scout® Traveler™ SUV and Scout® Terra™ truck concepts. Designed and engineered in Michigan and set for production in South Carolina, these vehicles aim to revitalize the iconic American brand and create over 4,000 jobs.
Scott Keogh, President and CEO of Scout Motors, emphasized the significance of honoring the original Scout ethos of versatility and adventure. “The original core idea — rugged, versatile vehicles capable of off-road adventure and family duty — is more relevant than ever,” he stated.
Design and Capability
The Scout Traveler and Terra claim to have a bold, iconic design, featuring a body-on-frame chassis and solid rear axle, which enhance their off-road performance. The Traveler can tow over 7,000 pounds, while the Terra is expected to handle more than 10,000 pounds, both with a nearly 2,000-pound payload capacity. The vehicles are engineered to tackle challenging terrains with features such as 35-inch tires, over a foot of ground clearance, and significant water fording capabilities.
Inside, the vehicles are designed for functionality, offering flexible cargo areas and robust materials. Both models include a front trunk that can accommodate sports equipment and power devices with 120V and USB-C outlets. The Terra’s 5.5-foot bed is equipped with multiple power outlets, catering to heavy-duty needs, while the Traveler’s split tailgate allows for easy cargo access.
Electric and Gasoline Options
The Traveler and Terra will feature fully electric and gasoline-powered range-extended energy systems. The electric models are projected to offer up to 350 miles of range, while extended range variants could exceed 500 miles, thanks to a built-in gas generator. This flexibility aims to reassure consumers about electric vehicle capabilities without sacrificing off-road performance.
Equipped with an advanced four-wheel-drive system, both vehicles can achieve 0-60 mph in as little as 3.5 seconds, powered by nearly 1,000 lb.-ft. of torque.
Customer-Centric Approach
Scout Motors plans to establish a unique sales and service network, fostering direct relationships with customers. The company promises transparency in pricing and a seamless purchasing experience, allowing customers to reserve their vehicles starting at $50,000 for the Traveler and $51,500 for the Terra.
